Ok, now you must think: “Here she is! Always reminding us that we must take it slow and enjoy the quiet life. Now that it’s summertime, she wants us to be efficient!” So, let me be clear, I’m all about balancing life. That means I want to trigger slowing down a little bit if things are getting uncomfortably overwhelming or being more efficient when we feel useless. So here I am, selling some efficiency for the summer. Summertime is the best time to be active. The warm weather and the sun shining motivates us. (and our natural need for hibernation is gone!)
The rhythm of nature is the one that matters
Whoever we are or whatever we define ourselves as, we are all part of the earth and its beautiful nature. Therefore, the best suitable rhythm we must adopt, on every occasion, is the ones dictated by nature itself.
Winter is a time for a slower pace, as the cold is already very demanding on our bodies and the darkness of the days are not sparing our mood. On the contrary, summer calls for action, not resting. Though you’ll absolutely need to enjoy your holidays relaxing and unwinding, you certainly will benefit even more if you take action and make the best of your time during the warmer months and even better during your getaway.
You can and must sleep on a regular basis. Taking days off from work as a family vacation and use that precious time for sleeping or watching TV will absolutely not satisfy this desire of enjoyment you are seeking during your holidays. You can just change that now and plan your summer adequately. When you are back on your usual working routine, you’ll be more willing to sleep more instead of watching TV if you didn’t spend nine days sleeping in front of it when you should have been outside enjoying your family time.
For business owners or future business owner
Summer is your time!
Summer calls for less sleep, though you still need to get 6-8 hours a night. However, it may be time to increase your working time at night or early in the morning on a regular basis. It’s far easier to get up early now that the sun is shining high in the sky. Take that useful time to work on your future business or new projects for your existing business.
Summer is the perfect time to work on your growth. You have to enjoy your days with your family and use that energy to boost your creativity. Brainstorm new ideas, even the craziest ones! Nothing new can really come out of the cold exhausting winter time. Summer and quality time with your family and friends is the best inspiration you can dream of for moving forward.
Plan daily quality family time
Ok, you may not be a SAHM or a WAHM, maybe you have your 9 to 5 job, and your kids are going to summer camps. But all the same, the weekends must be enjoyed at the fullest. You must stick to planning family activities. The school year is time for friends and neighbours; summertime can be great for bonding as a family.
By the way, if you want to get rid of your 9 to 5 one day, summertime certainly is the best time of the year to start working on that new project of yours!
Let’s go back to quality time. Family time is crucial for every mom. Unfortunately, we tend to think and consider that as we spend so much time taking care of our family, we need to have less of it. We couldn’t be more wrong. The problem is not the family involvement. The problem is that, taken by our crazy schedules, we have busy and stressful family time.
If you only have this kind of low-quality time with your family, you are unconsciously creating the association family = painful time. It’s not good, not in the least. You must spend some good time with your loved ones on a regular basis to create positive memories. By doing so, you will increase your positive energy and higher your overall motivation in every aspect of your life.
Be tight with your schedule
Don’t feel like you shouldn’t have a schedule during your summer. You’ll regret it as you’ll find September is coming and you just had time for nothing. Scheduling your summer doesn’t mean you have to do one hundred tasks a day! It simply means you have to set your goals and schedule them, just like any other time of the year.
You want to go for a walk or a bike ride three times a week, schedule them. You want to eat a healthy food, just plan your meals and your grocery shopping. Get your children involved! If they are young, you’ll be surprised to see that they much more enjoy what they eat if they chose it on the stall. If they are older, they can participate and learn. That’s a first step toward being a healthy student and adult once they’ll be on their own.
The time improving takes:
If you want to work on a new skill, some say it takes 10 000 hours to become an expert at something. To figure out what it means, if you practice 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, it means 10 years of regular work. But you don’t have to be such an expert to start something new. No blogger is a real expert when they first post. No photographer is showing its work only when he/she is already famous. How would have they become famous in the first place!
If you practice something new for two hours a day 5 days a week for three months, you’ll have already 120 hours of practice at the end of the summer. That’s already a lot. Not to mention that you’ll have a new habit, as they take an average of 66 days to settle. Therefore, you’ll be more likely to keep working on your new skill after back to school and during the winter.
Enjoy your summer wisely
Summer is enjoyable! It’s about the sun, warm days and walks in the woods or on the beach. Just remember to make the best of it. Don’t ruin it, don’t lose it. Enjoying something was never about letting it go, it’s the same for your summer months!
